LO3: Body Copy Of Articles

This Is Squarewave 

From being the young band playing at their schools annual school music festivals to being the headline in their album release concert, performing to around 150 people. Squarewave consisting of Harry Vincent, the lead singer of the band who has had stints with a solo musical career and other bands in his earlier years. Charlie James, a universal musician who can play multiple instruments including the piano and the base guitar, truly an all-rounder in the musical world. And finally Oliver Credland, The drummer, the creator of the loud intense sound with his unorthodox drumming technique.  

These musicians have been together for a long time as they can remember. Going back to the days where they were running around their playground in primary school. Whilst growing up, Squarewave and their musical talents grow as they took lessons to improve their skills. This all accumulating to them creating their band with their other friend Jack Tricklebank, under the name Lost Control. This fairly new band performed together at their school music festival in front of around 60 people at just 12 years old! These brave musicians had started their musical journey by getting an overall positive reception form their school debut. That year they created their own EP called ‘All The Wrong Reasons’ This was sold for £2.50 which they sold at their own school. The early Squarewave under a new name starting their musical journey. With this they performed in more local festivals infront of many people, this young band were dedicated to pursue their dream. After band member changes and one more EP Lost Control had blew out and adapted and changed to get rid of their school persona. This smart decision started the bands local band status.  

Squarewave was there name and the members went down to 3 members, this trio wanted to reinvent themselves as a Sheffield indie band and not someone’s school show. On the 28th of January 2018 a whole 4 years after Lost Control created their first EP, Squarewave released their 3 song EP simply called ‘Squarewave EP’ this introduction to the band showed the listener who Lost Control are now and how they have grown up, This EP was a personal EP as it reformed the members and explained personal events creating a personal feeling which was released on multiple forms of media including ITunes and Spotify. During this time,  they had to deal with important exams at school they performed and minor venues around Sheffield being fill in acts. This was nothing to what was going to come for Squarewave. 

In later 2018 around September, Squarewave had something planned which would transform the band into real uprising local talent. On the 17th November 2018 Squarewave released their debut studio album ‘Keep Your Legs Straight When You Hit The Water’  

When asked by ALT about the quality of the album, the band stated that “the album is on a whole other level to our debut EP, as the content has increased also the quality aswell. As we have been able to work with better and more equipment. To produce the best sound!” This followed by the question of the type of equipment they use. The band replied “we use various software's to enhance our sounds but the one we use most often is Ableton. Ableton lets us create the sound we love. This followed on to more insight of the band intentions on the heights the band believe they can go to. “we wanna go to major arenas maybe locally, like the MotorPoint arena. That would be a highlight to perform to thousands of people. 

With this album coming out in late 2018 then there will be more gigs and more albums in 2019, their next gig being at their main location at Café Totem in town. Hopefully in the summer of 2019. We cannot wait 

LO3: Creating Production Materials

 DPS

I used the text tool in photoshop to create my headline, I wanted to use the font that is used for my magazine name on the front cover. for that I had to use to different fonts for it, one being Colona MT the font, the other being Niagra Solid for the rest of the words. I added certain effects to my words where I bevel and embossed using that particular tool to make my headline stand out. I underlined a spread the letters outwards within the text adjustments tab.

I made this circle graphic as a page number for this particular page for to put in the top right corner of my DPS as a essential graphic that tells the reader what page number their on. To create the graphic I created a solid red circle on photoshop, secondly created a slightly smaller white circle to create a hoop effect with my number being inserted in it using the text tool. These colours

the previous body copy graphic I had a red inverted square box where the body copy of my article would go, however the printed out version made my the box look unprofessional and sloppy. This new version has the article space black with a white out line. I did this using the box creation tool on premiere. I find this better as it is slightly a different shade of black which makes it stand out but not too much.

Contents Page

For this welcome graphic i created in photoshop.  I used the font Colonna MT and Niagara Solid to continue the housestyle as it connotes a rough style that can be linked to the target audience, the target audience being young adults. What I did on photoshop is to use the text tool to create my text, then I used the colour palette on the text tool and coloured the outlines red and the solid colour white.
This interaction connotes a all inclusive magazine. This including all the demographic in the local area this linking with the client SPH publishing as they wanted me to create a local magazine.

 for the magazine date I used the text tool in adobe photoshop. I chose the black colour as I think it sets nicely with the red border in the centre of the page. I spaced the year away the month to make the year stand out as it can link to year specific artists. for collectors. I chose this font as it quite an aggressive font that can link with the target audience. As many fonts are different to this style this can make it stand out as a date is important.

For these photos I edited on photoshop making them clear and brighter to be able to see. On InDesign I added a border of 6pt. I did this so the photos look like they look like they are on the page in a 3d where. The border also connoting importance as they stand out compared to the writing around it. All with the circle graphic on top of denoting the page number. However in my opinion the writing is not very readable to my client as they want a professional magazine to be created for a local audience.

Front Cover 

 This graphic is the bottom sell line of my front cover promoting the local names that are in this magazine. I used a red and white pattern on my text. All the impact font text was in this pattern. This done by using the fill tool on my text on Photoshop. These names that are linking to the demographic as the target audience as in their free time they will listen to these musical artists.

 For my masthead I edited the size of the square by changing it into a rectangle. I also increased the size of the font. I believe this makes it stand out more and looks better. The font I used was the Niagara font as it looked professional to have in the black. Secondly the "a" in Colona MT with the double line design being bigger than the rest of the letters. These fonts could also link 

This graphic I edited was the promotion of a feature that is in the magazine. I used the text tool to add text to my white boxes with a black stroke. I changed the colour of the band to highlight the bands name. Also I put the band in all capitals to highlight them.

LO3: Contact Sheet And Evaluation

In this contact sheet it shows most of the photos I have taken at this gig of the showcases the band that are the main story on my magazine. In this contact sheet has landscapes of the band performing. Some came out blurry, those photos will not be used in my DPS as the quality need to be good quality as the photo will be across the whole two pages. These photos sometimes are too dark for my liking so I will edit them making them lighter and more visible. Some of these photos have a blur effect, this was slightly intentional as I believe the blur connotes action. The best photos I believe I got was the ones from a higher angle where I used a flash to make the band more visible and the crowd to slightly become a factor.

Obscene Publications Act
The Obscene Publications Act 1959 applies to television and covers material which is obscene, whether it is in a person's possession or it is published or broadcast. The definition of obscene is "likely to deprave and corrupt" the audience for which it is intended and includes not only sexually explicit material but material relating to violence and drug taking.

• if not applied, publication could be shut down.
• example a photo that could be of violence in a magazine
• it is illegal to publish content that may negatively influence readers 
• My audience is aged 14-25, male and female. This makes them impressionable to the magazine as the people in the magazine will be a ideal self.

Link to my magazine:

• Things that wont be in my magazines would be the photos of drugs, as most rock artists are linked with drugs. also lyrics that bring up drugs will not be featured as that may influence people to perform the same act.
• Any articles where the band are drinking alcohol, which is very common in these places that rock is played. there will be a drinkaware symbol.

Libel Law

Publishing content that could harm their reputation. The content can be untrue and can be defamatory

• Make sure the facts about Squarewave are true, no negative things shall be said about them as they are meant to the main event. check with band
• Make sure all photos are genuine and are not purposely edited to make them looked bad. especially if the words are negative.
• Make sure the photos adhere to the genre of music to avoid backlash from genre specific fans.
• No exaggerate negative opinions coming from the band. 
• make sure the source is reliable, e.g the news and the band
