LO4: Version Controls

I am wanting to make my double page spread, I am wanting to create a draft of my layout of my DPS. I want to make my contact sheet for my photos that I have taken for my double page.

In this lesson I created the dimensions of my DPS and my contents page in Adobe InDesign. I created the columns so I can easily fill the page with content. I created a Contact page with all my photos that I have taken. I have wrote about how I believe they can work with my magazine and the ones I believe that don't aswell. I later began to edit my most likely photo to use in adobe Photoshop. I wrote about the way my first edit fits to my genre and what tools I used in my evidence of editing blog.

I have in this lesson finished editing my photo I want for my DPS, I have put my photo onto my InDesign document. I have added a solid black shape to allow space for writing content on my DPS, This blends seamlessly as I colour matched it. I created my headline on Photoshop and am about to put my headline on my draft, a colour adjustment may be needed so the headline can be seen clearly. I embossed the text to allow it to be seen. I used the font that I will use on my front cover for my Alt logo. This linking with the consistency of the magazine.
I chose a different headline for my DPS as I believed the headline was not good enough for my DPS as I believed the words were not pulling enough for my audience to be excited for the band. I think that this is overall better than the last one as it has a different style completely that I think is more polished and more clear of who the band are.

I plan on putting my last graphic onto my DPS and start my main article.
I placed my page number graphic in the top right corner of my DPS. I began to create the text box that my main article will be in. I have decided to put my text box in the top left of my DPS as that has the most space with darkness. I was firstly gonna have a white text box to write my main article, however I believe the white text box does not work for my DPS so I decided to change the effects of my shape to see if I could blend it in with my housestyle. I changed the transiency setting of my shape to a colour dodge setting where it becomes a red transiency shape which I believe can still have my article can be read by the reader.

this week I want to finish my DPS. what I need to do is to make my main body copy for my article. This will the last thing I need to do as all my graphics are near enough done. I will start my contents page later this week and place my desired edited photo.
I wrote a 700 word article about squarewave. I wrote a timeline of squarewave from 4 years ago from to the present, I added quotes from the questionnaire in there to create a reader link.
I created a greeting for my contents page on photoshop using my housestyle font and placed it in the top left corner. also i duplicated the red borders and put it on my contents page as it is the housestyle. i created a plain black background that i colour matched with the top black layer at the top of my DPS.
I have added a variety of different photos I have taken in the past to act like other musicians that are featured in the magazine. This highlights them using images. the larger the image the more important
I edited these photos in photoshop. I created a 6 pt red border around the photos making it inkeeping with the housestyle.

I created the page numbers on photoshop like I did before and the changed the numbers by increasing them by random amount showing the main articles are throughout the magazine.
this is my contents page at the start of Mondays lesson. through this lesson I want to fill up dead space, I also want to create writing that will describe the pages that are highlighted.
This lesson I have filled in the dead space in my contents page by creating a editors section. I have also added little writing section on each photo to describe that certain topic. I have added issue numbers and dates of the magazine.

In my opinion my contents page and my DPS is too red for my liking and I believe it follows my housestyle abit too much, also I need more space for writing, also need to clean up the writing in the boxes as the font is hard to read and colour being read adds to the too much redness. The other colours I want to work with is yellow as It can connote danger which is linked with my target audience.

This is my changed version of this week, I have changed the font to impact, this is a sans serif font which makes my words stand out. The yellow is contrasted with the black to create a solid effect on the paper.
I changed box layout of the text box for this text box on photoshop. I created a white text box using the box tool. I then added a 6pt red border around my white rectangle. I then inserted text in the box using the text tool in the impact font.

These changes give my magazine a more professional look, I believe it looks more polished. Also the yellow is a better colour as it is different and can connote endanger which is linked to my demographic.

I added my editors column and my signature. I made bullet points using the text tool on InDesign using the ruler tool to make sure that all the bullet points are straight.
I have adjusted the photo to make the photo which was originally landscape to portrait. I used the crop tool and the free transform tool making sure the photo is at the right position where all the band members can be seen.
Next I began to edit my main image by increasing the levels of the photo. This made my models skin more prominent and brighter. This shows off all of the bands features. Also this makes the clothing brighter to make it more visible this adding to the genre of the magazine as they are wearing apropiate clothing that the demographic wears.
I increased the curves of the photo as it made the blacks and the pinks of their clothing brighter, this allowing the magazine to be more eye catching. I slightly lowered the graph as that's what made the blacks more black than my camera can produce. This fitting with the housetyle as one of the colours is black.
I created my headline using the text tool and within that I used the impact font as it is bold and noticeable and is clear to read. I then added a red stoke to create a 3D effect to my word. Also it is in keeping with the housestyle
I added a another word that connotes that the band are being shown off to the reader. I secondly changed the font to all capitals, this connotes loudness as if their band is being called to the stage. The stage being the magazine. I then added my red border which will be the main housestyle of my magazine. linking to the red style. I have began to add the left side graphic with the white squares I used the shape tool for.
I used the ruler tool to make sure that my shapes I have created are in line with each other. Also I have created a top sell line where large text will be showing off local events, this linking to the brief.
In this screenshot I have used the black paint tool to cover up the white button that appeared like a cut out in the photo. This I believe is not that noticeable as the colour is black linking with the clothing. This being a minor change to my model to fit with the housestyle.
At the start of this lesson I have a main headline with one left graphic in each induvial boxes. the box at the top if empty and will be filled. The masthead is to be changed to a more rectangle shape.
I made the masthead of my magazine more rectangular and larger. I added another local band on the left side of my magazine. using the same square format. I added a tramlines graphic at the top that is current to this issue that's why its very large. I changed the colour of the bands name to highlight the band to entice people into viewing the magazine.

this lesson I am going back to my DPS to create a image appropriate text for my article. This requires the main photo to be cut out as a template using the magnetic lasso tool, this being the first draft as it didn't look that good.
This lesson I plan on creating a circle graphic on my front cover to change up the shape of my graphics.
I made the size of Alt Masthead to fill more of the red square, making it more visble
I changed the colour of coverline text to a more marron colour, this meaning its not completely red but however it is more readable than the white stroke.
I created a variety of graphics, some were rounded rectangles and the other was circles, I chose the circles as it was a change to my other graphics
I added text to my graphic displaying what else is in the magazine

I sell line at the bottom of my front cover displaying featured artists in the magazine, I made the letter spacing 360 to fill the page with these 3 artists.
I added a colour pattern by changing the colour of certain words in a certain sequence.
I increased the size to this sell line to make it more visible to reader.
I chose my final design for this sell line. I used the shape tool and created two yellow rectangles and red witting, I believe this is more visible and readable. In my opinion this is better than any of my other designs as it uses one of my housestyle colours that is rarely used. Also this adds to the block style that is implemented on the left side.

I made a better outline template. Using the magnetic lasso tool.

I placed all my main article on my DPS. I used a drop cap on adobe InDesign. This showing clearly where the main article starts. I split up the main article to fit into the unique columns

I went back to my DPS to change my headline as it was too difficult read. I also changed the positioning of my headline this allowing my reader to see more of the photo.
I changed the font of my headline to the impact font that I used on the front cover and in my contents page. This shows a seamlessness between all the pages. This also makes it easier to read. I added white solid boxes with the shape tool. This adds a base for the words to be seen also this techniques being done throughout the pages connoting the house style.
Lastly on my front cover I have made the graphics on the bottom left more readable by changing the size of the boxes giving them more space.
My contents page in my opinion was not the cleanest, However I adjusted all the positioning's of the words and the graphics. These numbers being put to the right side of the column making it clearer to see. I did this by adjusting the graphic size using the free transform tool.

Files
I have been organised because created folders for each page and each unit of my magazine. within these folders there are more folders full of specific photoshop documents and evidence.

I have made sure when I saved my files that I saved my pages as lossless files. I made sure this happened by choosing the best quality possible within photo and indesign just before saving.
